Joy Squire founded the Taylor Dance Program in
1967 and from this program founded Taylor Ballet Americana in 1981. In an area without sound knowledge of classical ballet,
she was successful in introducing and then guiding the company into the well-known and respected organization it is today.

co-artistic director in 1993. She began her studies with Taylor Dance Program and Dance Detroit. After receiving a scholarship
to the New York School of Ballet, she moved to New York City and studied with Richard Thomas and Daniel Levens; later with

Taylor Ballet Americana's annual performance schedule
includes traditional, classical, and contemporary ballets, as well as a critically acclaimed Nutcracker. An outreach
program provides entertainment and cultural enrichment for area schools and community sponsored events.
Dancers with the company are given the opportunity to perform in
a professional environmcnt and explore the possibilities in dance available to them. Summer workshops are held each year,
with master teachers instructing in various styles of dance.
