August Tye

Ms. Tye began her dance training with Therese Bullard in Kalamazoo, Michigan where she studied ballet, modern, highland dance, and performed with The Kalamazoo Ballet Company. At the age of 15 she was awarded Best Young Choreographer through Regional Dance America. Ms. Tye is a two-time recipient of the Monticello Choreographers Award which has garnered her invitations to choreograph on companies throughout the country. In 1991, Tye moved to Chicago and trained at the Joel Hall Dance Center. While in Chicago, Tye has danced with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Joel Hall Dancers, Salt Creek Ballet, and Second City Ballet. In 1993, Tye founded The Hyde Park School of Ballet where she is the artistic director and principal instructor of ballet. Before founding Tyego Dance Project in 1997, Tye produced and self presented two full-length evenings of dance called Being in Dreaming featuring her choreography. Her work has been described as "bringing to the Chicago dance scene a knowing hybrid of perceptions... about the larger than life ... an impulse to the monumental" by Chicago Reader.
